Hello Everyone,
In this article I wish to explain the process of creating the HOT ROD STATUE inspired by the Transformers series. The fans have seen a couple of great designs and recreations of Hotrod from Threezero, XM studios and Imaginarium Arts. The designs were amazing and delicately created by master 3D sculptors. They all looked so epic and powerful. No one can deny those facts, however all designs (since 1986 till this day) lacked something very specific which is elegance. Hot Rod is a shiny, clean and elegant robot even when he becomes Rodimus Prime.
I remember growing up watching Transformers 1986 the animated movie, over and over. Most of the time, Hot Rod was displayed as a shiny robot or a sports car. For a while I wanted to create a 3D version of the Hotrod statue that depicts his true essence. I eventually found my reason and my challenge of this project.
Initially I began sketching and blocking the head since I was a little uncertain about the design of the body. Sketching the head gave me more confidence to find a specific look and shape for the character. Sometimes when we’re uncertain about a design, it’s better to start with parts that we’re most certain in order to assess our concept.
