Making of Hades Statue Zbrush – Blood of Zeus – Tsaber

Hello Everyone,

I’ll show another workflow of how I sculpt and this time I’ll be sculpting Hades statue collectible from Netflix’s original anime series “Blood of Zeus”. I admire the creativity and effort the creative team of Powerhouse Animation Studio has put into the character design. I was always were fascinated with Hades and I’m really glad we get to see more of him in the second season of the anime series.

I initially began the sculpting with the iconic Bident. The design of the weapon is simple in the anime series, but I wanted to raise the challenge and add more details to it. I stayed loyal to the general shape of the Biden.

The face of Hades was very challenging since he looked very similar to kratos from God of War video game. Mostly the grey color of the beard makes a great distinction. Once I fixed the general face structure, I added the facial details, making him more old and fierce.

I started creating the beard with a rough shape by following the same design as the anime. I refine the shape and added more details. I also created many beard strands that covered the beard in random places. That adds a more natural feel to the beard. I could have added more details to the beard to get a more realistic feel, but it wouldn’t work well in 3d printing. Since the model won’t be printed as a life scale or even ½ scale, we’d lose a great deal of details. Consequently, I can say that in this particular scenario, I had to play safe to avoid any future confects.

Details are certainly the most challenging and interesting part of the process. They bring the character to life. In order to make Hades more glorified, I decided to apply more details to the outfit. I wanted Hades to look more epic comparing what the fans saw of Hades in the anime series while staying loyal to the unique design of the anime. I know that in 2d animation, having too many details makes the animating process extremely difficult. However, I had the privilege to experiment with Hade’s design in Zbrush.

Details are always effective because they add a great deal of value to the design. While I stayed loyal to the original design of Hades from the anime series, I applied design that blend into the design. I should emphasize that consistency was a great factor in the work.

Even before starting the project, I pictured Hades standing in his domain. The Underworld in Blood of Zeus anime was depicted very similar to many depictions of hell, a harsh dried land covered with rivers lava. That gave me a great opportunity to work on such a landscape. I enjoyed working on the lava sculpting and textures. It’s always great practice sculpting rocks and every time I learn new methods to achieve the look I want.
